Our Founder

James Maroney is the owner and Director of Educational Consulting at First Choice College Placement. He is a 1992 graduate of Jonathan Law High School in Milford, and a 1996 graduate of Yale University. At Yale, he was a 3 time varsity letter winner in both track and cross-country. In his senior year, he was elected captain of the track and field team and was awarded the Yale Men's Cross-Country Award for Performance and Dedication.

After graduation, he lived in New York City and traded equities for nearly two years before founding First Choice College Placement. Since returning to Milford, he has become an active member of the community. He is the President-Elect of the Devon Rotary, a member of the board of directors of the Milford Literacy Center, an active member of the Milford Chamber of Commerce, and the founder and coach of the Milford Centaur Youth Track Team. As owner of First Choice, he is a member of the Education Industry Association and he also serves his alma mater,Yale University, as an alumni interviewer.

He has toured over 100 different college campuses, attended numerous professional conferences, and made countless presentations to civic organizations and high schools. One of his areas of expertise is college funding, and in presenting to parents of high school students he is often asked how to locate college-based merit scholarships. Those questions were the impetus for developing CollegeTreasure.com. He initially launched the site in the Fall of 2007. Since its launch he has been working on improving the site by making it easier to use and updating all of the college data.
